The will of John Courte, Sr. (Courts, Coates) was dated 27 January 1697 and proved on 15 December 1702. His heirs were son John, daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law James Keech who were bequeathed personal property. Son John received 150 acres called Martin's Freehold and daughter Elizabeth and her husband James Keech were left the dwelling plantation and all lands belonging thereto excepting what had previously been conveyed to son John by deed of gift. Son John and James Keech were named as executors. The will was witnessed by Cleborne Lomax, Blanch Lomax and Anne Cox
(Liber 11, folio 246, MARYLAND CALENDAR OF WILLS, Volume II). John Courte, Jr. undoubtedly
was Colonel John Courts (Coates) who was married to Charity Henley (Henly).
I have three more children for John Courts and wife Margaret that were probably deceased by the time of their father's will--Margaret, b. 1/15/1665; Charles; and Hugh.
