Hello. I am descended from Marth a Renfro, born ca. 1847, daughter of
Lydia (Holcomb) Renfro. I had always be en told that Nathaniel was her
father. However, during a research trip to Ga rrard Co, Kentucky in September,
I found Nathaniel Renfro's estate probate, first paper filed 15 March
1837, with final settlement on 14 August 1841. It name d James Renfro as
guardian of Nathaniel and Lydia's children, James, Polly, Hyatt,
William, Elizabeth, and Riley. There is no mention of any other
ch ildren, including Elbert, born in 1838, or my Martha...born 10 years
after Na thaniel's death. I was unable to find any other marriage record
for Martha in Garrard. She is also listed as head of household on the
1840 census (no adult male her age in household), she's also alone on the
1850 and 1860 censu s. Who is the father of her several children born
1838 and later? I woul d appreciate your thoughts. Sandra Walker @
