- Brother Herndon was my childhood minister and is who baptized me and my family in the 1950s.
This building was the home of my childhood church, predominantly in the 1950s. I was baptised here when I was 9 years old in 1956, along with my parents, my grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousin.
During all the time that we attended, our beloved minister was the Reverend Presley Fisher Herndon. A little bio on him is he was born 9 Apr 1886 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and was married to Hattie C. He was a minister in Paris, Lamar Co, Texas, during the 1920s until the around 1937 or so, before becoming minister of WBCC in Beaumont between 1937 and 1940 where he remained pastor until the early/mid '60s. Sometime before his death in 1968 he had been replaced as minister by the church board; and assumption is that he retired at that point. He died on New Year's Eve, 1968 at the age of 82 and was buried in Magnolia Cemetery on Jan 3, 1969. His wife, Hattie (b 1891-KY), had precedeased him. They never had any children.
